The therapist

Anna Quintana is a clinical psychologist with over 20 years of experience.

I graduated with a degree in Psychology from the University of Barcelona in 1993. I also have the qualification of Specialist in Clinical Psychology awarded by the Ministry of Education, which is an official requirement for all clinical psychologists.

I’ve also done a postgraduate course in Peritació i Defensa del Trastorn Mental (the expert assessment of psychological health for use in court) and a postgraduate course in the Techniques and Basic Principles of Cognitive Therapy.  I am currently doing a Master’s Degree in Social Cognitive Therapy. I’m EMDR therapist.

I am a member of the Col·legi oficial de Psicòlegs de Catalunya, and my membership number is 7954.

My career as a clinical psychologist started in the final year of my degree in a day centre for the mentally ill. Since then, I’ve worked for several different organisations and for a private consultancy. My main professional activity for the last 20 years has been at a Psychological and Psychiatric Clinic, working as part of a multidisciplinary team. I work with adults and adolescents with a wide range problems including anxiety, low self-esteem, depression, grieving, adjustment disorders, separation and stress.

My theoretical outlook is integrative. In addition to techniques learned during my training in cognitive-behavioural andconstructivist theories, I also draw on the approaches used inSystemicGestalt and Humanist Psychology.

My main aim when giving therapy is to help patients to cope with the situation they face, while at the same time helping them to develop as a person and extend their ability to deal with their own problems. To do this I use cognitiveemotional and experiential techniques, as well as hypnosis and EMDR.

I have a good level of spoken English and regularly carry out therapy in English.
